Our trek to Flores, Guatemala was an interesting one!

We literally walked from the country of Belize over the border to the country of Guatemala! On paper that seems kind of mundane but in practice it's quite fun!

We ran into our buddy "Indiana" on the other side whom we met while in St. Ignacio, Belize. We call him Indiana because he reminded us of Indiana Jones. Really nice guy from Washington State. So we all took a collectivo towards Flores. On the way there the collectivo guy kidnapped a turtle who was innocently trying to cross the road. Milena and Corey -- I think you would've freaked out :) I don't know the fate of the poor turtle but the look on his face said "ohhhhhhh noooooooooo....." :(

Flores is a gorgeous island that looks like this:

We ended up taking a boat ride on Lago de Petenitza during the sunset for $11 USD (80 quetzales):

Then the driver of the boat, Marvin, offered to take us to the top of a look-out point that had an panoramic view of the lake and its surrounding areas:

Marvin also gave us some Spanish speaking lessons. I officially suck in speaking Spanish. However, Derek is EXCELLENT at ACTING AS IF HE UNDERSTANDS Spanish! I have a lot to learn!!

The best question asked of me that day was from a German women who asked me in an extremely slow and loud tone "WHAT LANGUAGE DO YOU SPEAK?" She seemed hilariously surprised when I quickly and amusingly told her "I speak English -- I'm from Toronto, Canada". For some reason, my appearance seems to perplex everyone!

But whether your language is English, Spanish, German, or WHATEVER...Sometimes you can't use words to describe how beautiful something can be:

What do you mean they kidnapped the turtle? Did they eat the turtle? NOOOO don't tell me that!!! Yah and I'm with Dan on this where are the food pics?

by Milena

Just shaved my stubble syl! I will definitely post some pics of food next for you Dan :) Milena, I have no idea what they did with the turtle. They saw it on the road, stopped the bus to pick it up, they made a phone call, drove a bit, then gave the turtle to a driver of the bus going in the other direction. They put the turtle in the trunk. That's all we know :/... poor turtle look petrified :S
